What is Kinesio-taping?

Kinesio-Taping For Better Function & Performance!

Kinesio-Tape is catching on, everyone from elite athletes, sports enthusiasts,  pregnant mothers, children, and your clumsy neighbor seems to be using Kinesio-Tape.

That’s because it works!! This special tape is ideal for supporting stressed or strained muscles and joints, reducing inflammation, promoting circulation and lymphatic drainage, and speeding up healing.  The tape itself is water resistant and can be left on for several days, it is lightweight and latex-free, flexible and semi-breatheable.

How does it work?  The tape itself is very special.  The brightly-colored kinesiology tape is made up of cotton fibers with polymer elastic strands woven throughout. Whereas traditional athletic tape restricts blood flow and movement, kinesiology tape is pliable and allows for a full range of motion.

Kinesiology tape offers structural or muscle support to the underlying fascia; it can correct postural problems and increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage.  When the tape is applied correctly, it achieves the last of these effects by lifting the skin to create a small space between the muscle and dermis layers. That space takes the pressure off swelling or injured muscles, allows smooth muscle movement and makes space for drainage and blood flow.

It is often applied in patterns that mimic muscle movement, also allowing for optimum biomechanics and support.  It is important to have the tape applied by a licensed Chiropractor or Doctor who knows the proper pattern and direction the tape should be applied so as not to restrict joint or muscle motion or disrupt proper circulation.
