Women experience a variety of musculoskeletal problems throughout their lives, ranging from hormonal cramps to back pain during pregnancy. Chiropractic care may be able to help alleviate these issues. Here are a few common conditions that chiropractic can help with.

1.Osteoarthritis

A disorder that results in degeneration of joint cartilage and its underlying bone, osteoarthritis is primarily seen in middle-aged or older people. It causes hip, knee, and extremity joint pain and stiffness. Although osteoarthritis also occurs in men, it is more common among women. Among the factors contributing to this are estrogen levels fluctuating during menopause, larger hip placement in women than in men, and genetic links among females. Chiropractic adjustments can help reduce the pain of osteoarthritis in women. A joint can become damaged due to misalignment because of the way you sit, stand, or walk. By fixing those issues, chiropractic care may alleviate arthritis symptoms.

2.Lower Back Pain & Cramps

Cramps and lower back pain can be caused by a variety of factors, including endometriosis, hormonal imbalances, and complications associated with menstruation. Some women are rendered incapable of moving due to these cramps. Chiropractic treatment is one method to relieve pain. The symptoms of cramping can be reduced by manipulating the spine with an adjustment and treating the soft tissues of the low back and pelvis with massage therapy.

3.Headaches and Stress

Stress or Tension Headaches are among the most common headache type in women.  These types of headaches can come from a multitude of stress triggers.  They often feel like they begin in the back of the neck and extend up, wrapping around the head and creating an intense aching pain.  Adjusting the joints of the upper spine helps to improve mobility, reduce stress response, and relax muscles and ligaments around the area of the spine where stress headaches often originate.

Pregnancy and Delivery

As the baby grows in the uterus, mom’s center of gravity shifts forward, and her body has to adjust to her baby’s growth. With that comes a protruding abdomen and increased back curve putting strain on her spine. A pregnant woman’s ligaments loosen and relax as she reaches labor and delivery. All of this results in most pregnant women being in utter discomfort and pain. Prenatal chiropractic adjustments can help ease the discomfort that comes with pregnancy, balance to spine and pelvis for easier pregnancy and eventually labor, and even promote a better pelvic alignment to help optimize the position of the fetus. This all benefits mom and baby with a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery.
